Job Description:
Job Summary: The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for
performing a variety of specialized technical tasks in Diagnostic
Ultrasound utilizing high-frequency sound waves to assist medical
and professional personnel in detecting anatomical abnormalities.
Essential Generic Job Functions
- Performs procedures according to departmental format,
completing exams in allotted time.
- Performs required daily clerical duties, including the use of
EPIC, Teletracking System, computer system, patient scheduling, and
other systems as added by the Medical Center.
- Performs portable ultrasound exams.
- Conducts complex technical tasks in Diagnostic Ultrasound to
detect anatomical abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and
stones, in accordance with prescribed sonographic procedures.
Assists physicians with biopsy deep abdominal studies and
color-flow ultrasound as required.
- Prepares and sets up medical supplies, instruments, and
equipment.
- Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures, explains
procedures, and positions patients for each anatomical view.
- Evaluates the technical quality of images. Obtains and
processes images of pathogenic conditions according to standard
procedures or techniques.
- Maintains records of ultrasound taken, archiving and
de-archiving data as required. Calculates, compiles, and records
data from numerical readings on patient charts and related
documents.
- Calibrates, cleans, and performs routine maintenance on
equipment to ensure proper functioning. Cleans and sterilizes
instruments, supplies, and equipment. Stocks and replenishes
supplies as required.
- Provides technical assistance and instruction to students,
employees, and medical residents.
- Lifts a minimum of 25 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50
lbs., and stands a minimum of 6 hours a day.
- Greets in/out patients when they arrive for their exam
utilizing A.I.D.E.T. standards.
- Responsible for scheduled shifts including holidays and
weekends.
- Overtime as needed to provide continual quality patient
care.
- On-call assignments as needed per Department of Radiology
policy.
- Adheres to the policies of Employee ID, Standards of Behavior,
Attendance, and Punctuality.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and
modifies and delivers care specific to those needs (i.e., age,
culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This
process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or
primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age,
educational, literacy, etc.).
- Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's
Organizational Competencies.
Education Requirement
Knowledge, Education and Skills Required: Graduate of an approved
Ultrasound School. R.D.M.S. registered. 2 years training in Allied
Health/College. Knowledge of all ultrasound equipment, their
function, and operation of each control. Understanding of equipment
and computer systems as well as the procedures for equipment
service. Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of safety, infection, and disaster policy and procedures,
including implementation of patient care in cases of an emergency
situation. Maintains CEU Credits. Knowledge, Education and Skills
Preferred: 1 year of clinical experience in ultrasound. Knowledge,
Skills, Abilities
Required Certification/Licensing: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
(ARDMS) and BLS - AHA Schedule Notes
- Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 3 PM to
11:30 PM, totaling five days a week.
- 1 Holiday/per season.
- There is no on-call requirement; however, if we cannot find
coverage for a shift, we will ask the agency technologist if they
are willing to cover one or two shifts. But it is not
mandatory.
- 1 year prior experience in general Ultrasound-Required.
- Required Certification/Licensing: (ARDMS) and BLS - AHA
Radiology Ultrasound/Inpatients and Outpatients.
- Must be highly reliable and be available to work all days other
than those that were pre-disclosed prior to offer.
- Must not have alternative jobs that would interfere with HMH
schedule.
