Job Duties:

* Establish system controls by developing framework for controls and levels of access; recommend improvements.

* Maintain access by providing information, resources, and technical support.

* Ensure authorized access by investigating improper access; revoke access; report violations; monitor information requests by new programming; recommend improvements.

* Establish computer and terminal physical security by developing standards, policies, and procedures; coordinate with facilities security; recommend improvements.

* Safeguard computer files by performing regular backups; develop procedures for source code management and disaster preparedness; recommend improvements.

* Develop security awareness by providing orientation, educational programs, and on-going communication.

* Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintain personal networks; participate in professional organizations.

* Accomplish information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Cisco and Juniper firewalls
  • Understanding of detailed technical documentation including security and network diagram
  • Understanding network, compute, database, and middleware technologies as it applies to security protection technologies
  • Solid understanding of information security fundamentals, host and network security hardening and requirements; networking protocols; common intrusion techniques; and common risk management concepts
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills related to networking, operating systems, and malware analysis
  • Candidate must possess, or be willing to pursue, applicable professional/technical certifications, such as Security +, C EH, OSCP, GCIH, CISSP, GPEN, GWAPT, GISEC, CISM or CISA
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and comfort with presenting technical issues to all levels of management, as well as non-technical staff
  • Broad technical knowledge of current and emerging technologies
    • Will perform initial triage and trouble identification, interpretation of standards, resolve and recommend fixes for internal network problems or issues
    • Will be responsible for working with other engineers in helping develop written standards as well as helping deploy and maintain hardware in our various networks
    • Verify and validate security notifications from both internal and external sources
    • Identify and resolve incidents that are not defined by (or deviate from) an existing incident response guide
    • Respond to, remediate, and document information security related alerts and issues not limited to dashboard alerts, tickets, emails, or phone calls
    • Assist with security related incidents as needed or assigned
    • Update and maintain technical documentation for accuracy
    • Support Security projects to improve Cyber Defense Team or Lumen's security posture
    • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Potential for On-call required
